I usually don’t like making claims on what I think you should be doing.
But today is different. I’m willing to “cross the line” if this could
positively impact just one of you reading.
|| A Quick Story ||
One of my coaching clients holds a powerful role at one of the
most prestigious colleges in the nation.
And while she doesn’t “need” coaching, she knew there was something more she could be that she wanted to explore.
She wanted to do something creative. But creativity is one of those things that gets a BAD rap in our society…
And when Brene Brown, the infamous shame and vulnerability researcher
was asked in her earlier days why she doesn’t make art or do creative things,
her answer was…
“I don’t do A-R-T because I have a J-O-B.
As a culture, creativity tends to fall into the “if there’s time at the end of the day bucket.”
Yet, my client knew that it was important for her to explore.
And so we started with something fun simple.
She wanted to express herself through words.
She wanted to share what she was feeling on the inside onto the paper.
And she DID just that over the next week.
When we re-connected the following week, something seemed different about her.
She seemed lighter.
She seemed more energized.
She seemed more expressed.
And then she shared with me that the thing she’s been wanting
to do was actually happening – She was asked to spearhead an initiative that would use sports as a vehicle for young women’s empowerment.
A dream she’s had for years.
The writing didn’t necessarily create a specific result, yet it created the
feelings that were necessary to create the opportunities she was wanting.
So, I want to leave you with something that I hope is valuable to you.
If you’ve been waiting for permission to make things…
Whether it’s a biz.
Whether it’s a poem.
Whether it’s ice cream.
Whether it’s a cure for cancer.
Whether it’s a hugging station in your city.
Please get started today, you amazing human.
Please go make something that means something to YOU.
If you do this, I promise at least a few others will
also be moved, touched, or inspired.
So, what are you going to make today? Tomorrow? This week?
Let me know below + share this with a friend that might wanna play.
